So this might be cheating a bit as a writer, and I know you were probably mostly kidding anyway, but I’d like to take a moment to consolidate what the audience “knows” about this situation.
So Sally was going to meet with Alaster, but was significantly late. She was going to give him a lead on some big baddie to fight.
Here we have Sally seemingly making her pitch to Charlie instead. And Charlie confirms that Sally’s enemies are not demons and thus a Slayer wouldn’t be able to collect any bounty for defeating them. (Alaster briefly mentioned bounties when talking about the Armored Slayer, and Charlie’s comment here is meant to confirm that bounties are indeed how slayers are primarily paid)
Charlie seems to have some connection to events so much that when Charlie declines to fight her foes, Sally assumes he is already working with them.
Also, just for kicks, I could also note that between Charlie, Cerene, and her own comment about having few people to turn to, it seems that Sally has a history of burned bridges.
I very much appreciate the consolidation! I’m a big theorizer/analyst (as you’ve seen…) so if you didn’t do it I probably was at some point. XD Things seem pretty interesting so far! Can’t wait till we end up sinking our teeth into the heart of the situation…
…Which is not a metaphor that I intended to end up so gruesome, but oh well. Frankly though, I can see why Sally has a lot of burned bridges. She’s not exactly the ‘hug it out’ type when it comes to dealing with one’s problems. I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a lot of faces punched that should have been left unpunched on her end.
Also (I should find a way to start unrelated paragraphs with something other than also, but today is not that day.) I’m really liking Charlie’s design in general!! I love how the wraps on his arms and chest subtly reference his old design, and while I didn’t predict it, the fact that he’s a wight doesn’t surprise me in the slightest. He’s been tied in with necromancy since day 1, so its a perfect fit. Looks like he’s wearing his hair differently too!
So funny story on Charlie’s redesign, he didn’t have a model at the start of the week. I had a completely different page planned, and wasn’t originally going to show this conversation (though Charlie turning down an offer like this was always part of the story). I’ll go more into what the original plan was another time, but it was certainly part of the “next few pages are really ambitious” thing I was talking about before.
Round about talking points aside, Charlie needed a model fast. And oddly enough I was originally going to have him as a demon rather than a wight. Both fit, but in the end wight won out at the last second because I need more wights outside of the Wight family… and frankly he looks so damn cool like this.
His old hair was a bit of a sloppy model so I decided to revamp it with something that made more sense. It looks better from some angles than others, but I kinda like that fact. He’s definitely still got “bad Sonic fan character” hair going on.
The wraps… kinda another last minute thing, but the whole model was last minute, it was a weird week. I knew he needed something custom… something to stand out. The Slayers have a loose dress code so they probably will all have some variation. I kicked around a lot of ideas, but drawing from and expanding on his old design worked best in the end.
Good to see a couple more old favorites back. I like how while looking different in a lot of ways Charlie still looks like and was recognizable as Charlie. Finding out his model was last minute make it even more impressive. Interested to see what Sally is up to in this version of events.
OHHH MY GOD. When I saw Sally in the thumbnail of my RSS feed, I was excited… but I wasn’t expecting CHARLIE! Two of my favorites are back!!!!
….I wish I knew what either of them were talking about! 8)
