Hmmm, portraits of faculty and staff? Implies that those in the portraits are likely a little older by this point in this continuity.
Bartleby’s got a different outfit too, by the looks of it!
Ahh, I see he’s toned it down for the official portraits then.
Out of curiosity though- what was it that Bartleby DID for a living in the old comic? I know he wasn’t anyone particularly…important in the grand scheme of things, but I can’t remember if anyone ever mentioned his actual job.
In the script for the hiatus, in the background, Kevin and Solstice referred to Bartles as “Professor Hayse” and Kevin says he taught History (though he was ‘ass’/garbage at teaching History). Here it is from my original document:
KEVIN: Ugh. Should have known. The guy is ass at teaching history and never deserved the inflated salary he gets. I should request to have his pay cut but it’s going to look suspicious if I ask now.
SOLSTICE: You know you can’t do that, right? Mr. Narron pays him, not you.
KEVIN: I’m still mad! That lout took MONEY from OUR VAULTS and is using it for stupid shit like this! That money could be ANYWHERE! No one who DUPES us should FUCKING GET AWAY WITH IT!
This originally was cut off so no one could have possibly read it unless they saw the comment on that page which had this dialogue. Kevin and Solstice tend to live and interact in their own world and don’t really let people in to it unless they want to but there you go.
This is adorable. It reminds me of the time I had planned for Morty to “grow up” to be a creature resembling a Yoshi.
As for a swarm of demons… they definitely have some different properties in large numbers that make them more dangerous in multiple ways.
Basically, swarming demons are so ravenous and unstable that they are constantly devouring each other and then dividing into separate demons as quickly as they are eaten. So a demon swarm is quickly reduced to a blob with dozens of faces on it all eating each other as they surge toward their prey. Pieces breaking off, trying to sprint ahead and getting swallowed back into the mass, only to repeat the process again immediately.
It’d be nuts to pull off showing it properly but if I had infinite time or a studio behind me to do it for me I totally would go for it. Mostly I’ve just shown them as being close together and solid black so that it’s hard to tell where one starts and another ends.
Maybe I’ll play with the effect this time around, though.
(oops, posted this as a reply to the wrong comment for a sec… and now I’m left wondering if you’ll get some kind of double alert on your end.)
I’m glad you like it! Animation takes a while to make, but the results are always so satisfying.
Also, demon swarms sound cool as hell, I’d love to see that animated too… though maybe not for a while, it’s gonna take me a bit before I’m ready to animate again. XD
And nope, no doubled alerts on my end! Though to be fair, I don’t set up alerts for replies, I just refresh the pages I think I might get replies on.

Well, not so much a new outfit, but his old outfit without the wings or shoulder pads.
These are the old models. It’s what I had on hand.
Like that shouldn’t shut down any speculation or anything, just wanted to set it in a bit of context of “I used what I have”.

Ooooh that makes sense. I could absolutely see him as a (terrible) history teacher. Thank you! c:
Oh btw!

Just finished this! I wanted to speculate on how the lil demons could move fast enough to ‘swarm’, and decided to do a run cycle for Morty. Well, I guess you can’t tell it’s Morty because he looks like all the other tiny demons but. We know in our hearts. :3
