That’s not to say that normal mode Charlie really made too much more sense, really.
I can’t really say who is scarier here. William is possessing/dominating people who are standing a good 20 or so feet away and are respectable mages. Charlie, though, seems to know something about how he’s doing this (without, as far as we know, having magical training/knowledge) and knows that this ability will not affect him.
Well it might be possible that the chaos in Sallys mind became insufficient when William got a firm grip on her noggin and directly channeled his voodoo into her
Charlie: Electrocuting teammates for the greater good.
I’m taking what Charlie says about seeing hell in a more literal light… that he ran into something completely mindbending at one point. It would explain why he’s saner now than he was in the flashback- because he had time to reconfigure his worldview to accomodate. If the ley lines are the blood veins of the earth, who’s to say the Earth doesn’t have a brain somewhere, too? Something massive and incomprehensible enough to mess up with someone’s head?
OK! Charlie is officially scarier then William just on principal alone

So sally didn’t have any chaos in her mind? Charlie is too crazy for mind control.

So, he doesn’t need physical contact. This could be bad.
So only the crazy person can defeat the mind controlling eldrich Abomination
With great power, comes Great Insanity

In layman’s terms: Charlie’s head is full of crazy so there’s no room for giant zombie man.
Charlie’s power is electricity, perhaps he can use that power to effect his own brain (as it is run through electrical stimulus.)
