186: The Hole Burnt Through Hell
Charlie’s speech is a reference to Gurren Lagann, usually I mention this kinda stuff in the alt text and DA repost only, but the scene has been translated so many ways that I wanted to be absolutely sure it got through. My favorite version of that speech is as follows:
“I’ll dig a hole that pierces the heavens! Even If that hole becomes my grave! As long as I break through I’ll be victorious!”
Much of the sentiment and symbolism has been turned on it’s head here. And that’s a fact with significance.
On an unrelated note I made another one of my pony videos…
So I get that most of everything is grim from most stand points, but collectively there’s not much to put together that makes a lot of sense as to why it is grim besides there being an abundant “darkness”, the Plague that permeates the land. The machines being well made without a source of material and little robotic components, the actual Plague itself, and the presence and preservation of demons and angels.
From what I gather:
The Plague forms a symbiotic relationship with its host, with symptoms such as super strength and portals, making it seem to be a magical plague that can grant its host these powers while feeding off them.
The machines brought in for one of the family to tinker with and the robotic components made and programmed (most likely forced) by one of the family with assistants (Whom they kill later to hold the secret of their creation). However, with no readily available purpose at the time of creation, there would be no need to create them.
As this is getting pretty long, I’ll save the angels and demons for later.
what would you call the facial expression in frame 2?
